Authors note: I didn’t want to write about a conventional birth. As you can see I have fairly strong opinions on what happens within maternity care. The conversations in this piece would not be far out of the norm in a maternity ward, where many doctors, although caring and professional, often forget that the woman birthing has a right to an opinion and deserves to be heard – not talked over the top of as if she were not there.
